A New Year’s Reflection

The holidays are often emotional times for us.  Whether joyful or sorrowful (or a hot mess of both), we tend to feel more. Our busy lives don’t always allow for it but making time to reflect helps us stay grounded in our everyday lives.

For those of us (me included) that neglect this daily ritual, having a reset at the end of the year can be valuable time. We get so busy that we seldom stop and make course corrections to the balance in our lives.  I recently read this quote I’m going to borrow: “make this a year to go after progress over perfection.”

I encourage you to find some time to sit and reflect. Bring a pen and a notebook so you can take notes. As I reflect on 2022, I’ll think about the following…

1.     Take time to breathe. Reflect on the year and recognize both positive and negative moments.

2.     Reflect on what I did well this year.

3.     Reflect on losses, and what they mean to me.

4.      Be grateful to people that impacted me this last year. Send a note, letting them know how they effected my life positively.

5.     Think about ways to be more intentional with relationships (like increasing in-person contact)

6.     Contact someone I’ve been meaning to reach out to, but never did.

7.     Think about my career / life goals. What can I do to make progress in 2023?

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice.” - T.S. Eliot

Happy new year! May it be filled with many Blessings!
